Early Red Card! Young Violets defeat Bregenz

The Young Violets celebrated a 2-0 home victory against Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz on the fifth matchday of the ADMIRAL 2. Liga.

The Viennese benefited from an early sending-off for the guests, but struggled for a long time despite their numerical advantage. A penalty kick shortly before halftime ultimately secured the win.

Bregenz Decimated Early

The guests got off to a better start and had their first good opportunity in the sixth minute. Daniel Au Yeong took a shot but was denied by a strong save from Stefan Blazevic.

Then in the 17th minute, the key moment of the match occurred: Marco Brandt sent the only 16-year-old Bruno Jerabek through with a superb through ball. Bregenz keeper Joao Paulo rushed out of his penalty area and brought the youngster down.

Referee Achim Untergasser showed the Brazilian a red card for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. However, since the foul occurred just outside the penalty area, there was no penalty kick. Jerabek himself took the resulting free-kick from a promising position but sent the ball over the crossbar (20.).

The Young Violets initially struggled to capitalize on their numerical advantage. Shortly before halftime, however, the hosts were awarded a penalty. Rodrigo Souza impetuously brought Marco Hausjell down in the penalty area.

Hausjell stepped up himself and converted confidently. He sent the now-substituted second Bregenz goalkeeper Peter Kwame Aizawa the wrong way to make it 1-0 (44.).

Bregenz Pushing for an Equalizer

Bregenz coach Martin Brenner responded at halftime with a double substitution, bringing on La'Sean Sealey, among others. The Englishman immediately created danger, sending his first shot just over the bar (49.).

Just a minute later, Anteo Fetahu squandered a great chance to equalize. One-on-one with Blazevic, he failed to beat the Young Violets keeper. Sealey also couldn't put away the rebound (50.).

It was the guests' best phase, as they suddenly pushed for an equalizer despite being a man down. The Viennese could thank their young goalkeeper during this period for maintaining their lead.

After that, the game leveled off again. The Young Violets were content with their narrow lead and no longer took full risks. Meanwhile, the strength of the depleted Vorarlbergers gradually waned.

Substitute Seals the Deal

In the final phase, the hosts were ultimately closer to a second goal than Bregenz was to an equalizer.

Substitute Illia Menshykov had the opportunity to seal the match in the 71st minute but was denied by the woodwork. Marco Brandt also narrowly missed the Bregenz goal (79.).

Shortly before the end of the game, a joint effort by two substitutes finally decided the match. Ilya Menshykov showed good vision for the onrushing Romeo Mörth, and the 19-year-old didn't squander the opportunity (88.).

In the table, the Viennese thus moved past Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz and jumped to fifth place. The Vorarlbergers slipped to eighth place after their first defeat in three games.
