Despite Slapstick Miss: FAC Forces Wacker to Its Knees
The Viennese thus overtake the Tyroleans in the table.
Floridsdorfer AC continues its strong start to the season, defeating FC Wacker Innsbruck 2-0.
The Viennese showed the better performance, especially in the first half, and secured a preliminary decision with two goals. Wacker could not decisively improve after the break and suffered its second defeat of the season.
Vucenovic Puts FAC Ahead
The match needed some time to get going before FAC became dangerous for the first time. In the 14th minute, Mario Vucenovic looked for Tomislav Glavan with a sharp cross into the box, but the Croatian striker was a step too late.
A little later, Vucenovic did better himself. The attacker scored somewhat out of nowhere to give the hosts the lead (25').
For Wacker, the conceded goal was doubly bitter. Right-back Alexander Joppich injured himself without external influence during the build-up and had to be substituted.
FAC clearly took control in this phase and had the chance to extend their lead. However, Lan Piskule missed a huge opportunity for a 2-0 lead (32').
Osmani Extends Lead with Spectacular Goal
Shortly before half-time, the Floridsdorfers finally managed to score their second goal. After a spectacular attack, Thomas Geris laid the ball back to Tristan Osmani.
The midfielder struck the ball perfectly, hammering it powerfully and low into the net – 2-0 (40').
Wacker then got truly dangerous in front of goal for the first time. Substitute Raphael Galle shot from distance, but Paul-Pius Scharner could only parry it forward. Christopher Weinzierl followed up with a shot but was decisively blocked (42').
Wacker Fails to Get Back into the Game
Wacker coach Sebastian Siller reacted at half-time and made a double substitution. Luis Gstrein and Bright Owusu came on for Christopher Weinzierl and Adrian Lechl.
However, the substitutions did not bring the desired effect. The second half was characterized by many smaller interruptions and little flow in play. FAC coped well with this and managed their lead confidently.
In the 71st minute, the hosts had several chances for the definitive decision.
FAC Squanders 3-0 in Slapstick Fashion
Piskule laid the ball across to Vucenovic, who missed the empty net because the ball bounced right in front of him. But the action continued: in the rebound, Klavan only hit the crossbar.
Piskule then also got a shot away but also hit the woodwork. Three times within a few seconds, the aluminium (post/crossbar) or a patch of uneven ground and their own inability prevented FAC's third goal.
Richards (81') and Piskule (87') also negligently missed the chance to seal the game shortly thereafter.
However, the squandered chances no longer changed the result. Floridsdorfer AC confidently saw out their 2-0 lead.
As a result, Mario Sonnleitner's team overtakes Wacker Innsbruck in the table and is in fourth place after five rounds. The Tyroleans, however, suffer their second defeat of the season and slip to sixth place.
