FIS World Championship Revolution is Official
The FIS World Championship rhythm will change. There will not only be a World Championship every two years, but every year in which there are no Olympic Games.
The FIS is changing the World Championship rhythm starting in 2032.
Previously, World Championships in winter sports only took place every two years in odd-numbered years. In the future, there will be a World Championship every year in which no Olympic Games are held.
"After a preliminary feasibility study was presented to the FIS Board, focusing on sporting value, calendar, and commercial and media rights potential, the FIS Board supported the concept of increasing the frequency of FIS World Championships," the federation announced.
Besides the start date of 2032, the FIS is also leaving the door open for an additional event and is exploring a "bonus World Championship" as early as 2028.
