Ex-Downhill Racer Coaches Lara Colturi
The former ski star was "surprised" by the coaching offer. He is expected to help elevate Colturi to a new level in Super-G and Giant Slalom.
Lara Colturi is considered one of the greatest talents the Alpine Ski World Cup currently has to offer.
Despite being just 19 years old, the daughter of former ski racer Daniela Ceccarelli has already reached a World Cup podium seven times (5x in Slalom, 2x in Giant Slalom). For the 2026/27 season, Colturi, who competes for Albania, is now aiming for the next step in her development.
To achieve this, she has also hired a new coach this year: former downhill star Johan Clarey will assist Colturi in the future.
Colturi's Parents Called Clarey
"Her parents called me in July, and I was surprised by their offer," Clarey explained in an interview with "L'Equipe."
The Frenchman continued: "I hadn't planned to take on such a role. From a family perspective, it's not easy to be away from home so often, but it's a great challenge, and such opportunities don't come around twice."
Support in Giant Slalom and Super-G
The goal of the collaboration is to further develop Colturi specifically in Giant Slalom and Super-G. Clarey will also accompany the 19-year-old in these two disciplines this season. "She has great potential," the 45-year-old said happily.
Johan Clarey retired from the Alpine Ski World Cup in 2023. While the former speed specialist never won a World Cup race, he holds the record for the oldest medalist at a Ski World Championships, and is also the oldest ski racer to reach a World Cup podium – achieved in January 2022 in Kitzbühel (41 years, 13 days).
