Swiss ski legend dies of cancer
The ski world mourns former downhill racer and Olympic medalist Roland Collombin.
Former downhill racer Roland Collombin has passed away at the age of 75. His family confirmed this on Friday.
Two years ago, the Swiss was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer, which he initially managed to overcome. Subsequently, however, liver cancer also developed. He has now lost his battle.
Collombin, who also won the Hahnenkamm downhill in Kitzbühel twice, was one of the best downhill racers of the 1970s.
He won eight World Cup downhill races and was crowned winner of the World Cup discipline standings in both 1973 and 1974.
Collombin also won silver in the downhill at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo.
