Tagger bows out to world No. 34 in Wuhan opener
The young East Tyrolean put up a good fight against the Czech player but ultimately had to concede defeat.
Lilli Tagger's journey at the WTA-1000 tournament in Wuhan has already come to an end.
In the opener, the 18-year-old bowed out to Czech Nikola Bartunkova (WTA-34) in three sets with a score of 6:7(4), 6:2, 1:6.
The first set, in particular, was a head-to-head duel between the two, which the Czech player narrowly managed to decide in her favor only in the tie-break. In the second set, the East Tyrolean then came alive, starting with a break and allowing her opponent only two games.
She could not maintain this momentum in the decisive third set. Bartunkova demonstrated her class, allowing the young Austrian only one game and marching into the second round.
