The 18-year-old defeated Ukrainian Darina Snigur 7:6 (3), 6:2 in the WTA 250 final on Sunday (to the match report >>>).

Entry into the Top 50

This makes her not only the first Austrian since 2013 and the tenth overall to celebrate such a success, but she can also look forward to a new career high. Tagger will appear in the top 50 of the world rankings for the first time starting Monday, specifically at position 45.

In an interview after the final and her first WTA victory, the East Tyrolean highlighted the atmosphere in Prague and also praised her coach Francesca Schiavone and the entire team. "You do incredible work so that I can achieve my goals," she says, emphasizing: "The energy was insane."

This also helped her to forget the fatigue from the previous day. She also repeatedly reminded herself that it was something special to play in such a large stadium.

Clear Play Follows Nervous Start

Her parents and siblings also spontaneously cheered her on from the stands and initially witnessed a nervous start from the Austrian. After her opponent performed almost flawlessly at first, Tagger gained momentum at 2:5 and turned the first set around.

In the second set, she dictated the pace from the start. She won this set in just 31 minutes. Despite the loss, her opponent remained gracious: "You deserve it, congratulations," Snigur emphasized.

Tagger: "I Was Quite Nervous"

Tagger addressed her hesitant start after the match: "It was an amazing match. To be honest, I have to say, I was a little bit, if not to say: quite nervous, at the beginning." She mentioned that the Ukrainian's unusual playing style, in particular, caused her problems early on.

Ultimately, she expressed her delight at her first WTA title: "I can't believe I actually won it in the end. You don't play a final every day, it was very important to me to win the match and the tournament," she emphasized.

With the victory, the 18-year-old also secured prize money of 37,390 dollars. Her next stop is the WTA 125 tournament in Warsaw.
