Bravo! Lilli Tagger Wins Her First WTA Title in Prague

Lilli Tagger celebrates the biggest success of her young career so far in Prague.

The 18-year-old wins the WTA 250 final in the Czech capital with a 7:6(3), 6:2 victory against Ukraine's Daria Snigur (WTA 54) and secures her first WTA title.

Tagger is also the first Austrian woman since Yvonne Meusburger in Bad Gastein in 2013 to win a WTA title.

Tagger Recovers from Early Break

The match started with a nervous opening from the Austrian. She immediately dropped her first service game. But as the first set progressed, she found her way into the match more and more.

At 2:4, Tagger had her first two break points, but she failed to convert them. When Snigur then had the chance to serve out the set, the player from East Tyrol did better and secured her first break.

Both players then held their service games, leading to a tie-break. There, the 18-year-old ÖTV ace displayed her best tennis to date. On her first set point, she served an ace, winning the tie-break 7:3.

Dominant Second Set

The second set immediately started with another break opportunity for the player from Lienz, but the Ukrainian initially managed to fend it off and hold her serve. However, Tagger didn't let up and was able to break the Ukrainian in the following service game.

The Austrian then played her game clinically. She held her own service game and, with her second match point overall on her opponent's serve, clinched the victory.

With this tournament victory, Tagger is also expected to break into the Top 50 of the world rankings for the first time. In the live ranking, she currently sits at number 45.
