Lilli Tagger advances to the round of 16 at the WTA 250 hard court tournament in Prague thanks to a 6:2, 6:4 victory over 28-year-old Chinese Xinyu Gao.
The world No. 74 of the WTA rankings comfortably won the first set against world No. 244 after two breaks. She held her own serve cleanly.
In the second set, Tagger also did not drop her serve once, instead securing the decisive break to go up 3-4.
Manageable Round of 16 Task and a New Career High?
The 18-year-old from Tyrol is already closing in on a new career high in the world rankings. In the live ranking, she currently sits at No. 73. She had only just set a new career-best ranking on Monday at No. 74.
In the round of 16, Tagger will face Japan's Mai Hontama (WTA world No. 203), who defeated sixth-seeded Frenchwoman Diane Parry in straight sets (6:4, 6:0).
