The 24-year-old Viennese has reached the round of 16 at a WTA 1000 tournament for the first time in her career.
At the hardcourt tournament in Beijing, Kraus prevailed impressively on Sunday with a 6:1, 6:4 victory over Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (WTA-111.) to storm into the round of 16.
Now Awaits Bartunkova - Not Sabalenka!
Kraus thus continues her run: In the first round, she eliminated Australian Maya Joint (WTA-75.), and in the second round, she benefited from the retirement of her compatriot Anastasia Potapova.
In the round of 16, Kraus will now face 20-year-old Czech Nikola Bartunkova (WTA-34.), who sensationally defeated world number two Aryana Sabalenka with a 6:4, 6:3 victory in her third-round match.
New World Ranking High for Kraus
There's also positive news for Kraus regarding her world ranking. The Viennese player has already appeared at number 75 in the live ranking - which signifies a new career-high. Kraus's previous best was 80.
If she manages a sensation against Bartunkova in the round of 16, she could even break the 1000-point mark for the first time and enter the top 65.
