Grabher suffers clear defeat in Philadelphia semifinals

Julia Grabher (WTA-114) was defeated in the semifinals of the 125K tournament in Philadelphia.

She lost to Czech Tereza Valentova (WTA-57) 3:6, 1:6.

Grabher struggles from the start

Grabher was already struggling in the first set. Her opponent pulled away to a 3-0 lead before the Austrian secured her first game. However, she never managed to catch up, and Valentova closed out the first set 6-3 on her own serve.

The world number 114 continued to struggle in the second set. The Czech did not allow her to get into the game, securing three breaks during the decider.

After a total of 1 hour and 27 minutes, the second set was also lost 1-6, and the match concluded.

Grabher will play her first match at the US Open on Sunday. There, she will face WTA-17 Sorana Cirstea from Romania. After several players withdrew, the Austrian does not have to play in qualification.

Oberleitner wins ÖTV duel

A semifinal also didn't go according to plan for Lukas Miedler.

In Winston-Salem, he and his partner Marc Polmans were defeated by his compatriot Neil Oberleitner and his partner Petr Nouza 4:6, 2:6.

The match was close at the beginning. However, Oberleitner/Nouza pulled through at 4-5 and clinched the first set.

Things became clearer in the decider. From 2-4, Miedler/Polmans could no longer keep up and had to concede defeat after 1 hour and 4 minutes.

The Austrian winner will face Krajicek/Mektic in the final.
