Bresnik Praises Tagger: "She can achieve anything"

Lilli Tagger has reached an early milestone in Prague, winning her first WTA title.

In the final, the 18-year-old from East Tyrol prevailed against Ukraine's Daria Snigur with a 7:6 (3), 6:2 scoreline after initial difficulties. The player from Lienz impressively made up for a 2:5 deficit in the first set and was subsequently unstoppable.

However, it is not this victory that impressed Günter Bresnik. Dominic Thiem's former coach was particularly impressed by Tagger's performance in the semi-finals against two-time Grand Slam winner and local hero Barbora Krejcikova, he explained to the "Krone".

"In Wimbledon, she (Krejcikova) knocked out French Open winner Mirra Andreeva, then narrowly lost to eventual finalist Muchova. And if Lilli beats someone like that, there are no limits for me; then she can achieve anything."

A Chance Even Against Sabalenka and Co.?

The 65-year-old would also believe the ÖTV young star capable of successes against tennis greats like Aryna Sabalenka and expects great things from her.

"She has incredible athleticism, can put pressure with her forehand and backhand, and moves well for her height," Bresnik offered words of praise.

Tagger will break into the Top 50 for the first time in the new WTA world rankings, appearing at number 45. This makes her the youngest player in the Top 100; only Iva Jovic from the USA, ranked 16th, is also just 18 years old.

The Austrian has planned her next tournament participation for the first week of August at the WTA 125 tournament in Warsaw. Afterwards, she aims to play her way into the main draw of the Masters tournament in Cincinnati via qualification, before the US Open.
