Alexander Zverev wins his second Grand Slam title of the year at the US Open.

The German wins the final in Flushing Meadows against US local hero Ben Shelton in four sets with 6:3, 7:6 (2), 5:7, 6:2. At the French Open in Paris, the world number two had celebrated his maiden victory at a Major.

After just over three and a half hours of play, the 29-year-old makes peace with New York, where Zverev had been defeated by Dominic Thiem six years ago in the final after a two-set lead.

In the world rankings, Zverev cements his second place, now only 1,810 points behind leader Jannik Sinner. Shelton improves to fourth place after his first Grand Slam final.
