The MotoGP Australian Grand Prix, planned for Sunday, had to be cancelled. Bad weather prevented the event from taking place at Phillip Island.
The main reason for the cancellation was that medical care could not be guaranteed due to the weather conditions. The emergency helicopter would not have been able to take off due to poor visibility, which ultimately led to the decision to cancel.
Martin Benefits from Cancellation
This is not bad news for Jorge Martin. The Aprilia rider had broken his wrist in Saturday's Sprint race and would have had to miss Sunday's race. Thus, Martin's deficit in the MotoGP World Championship behind championship leader Marc Marquez remains manageable.
Marquez, who won Saturday's Sprint, has 365 points, Jorge Martin has 355, and Marco Bezzecchi has 315.
Farewell to Phillip Island with a Parade Lap
Originally, Sunday's race was also supposed to serve as a farewell to the Phillip Island circuit. In the future, MotoGP in Australia will move to Adelaide.
After the cancellation, the riders bid farewell to the track and the fans with a parade lap.
