Fiery Crash at Madrid Premiere! Formula 2 Car Goes Up in Flames

The premiere at the new Madring in Madrid gets off to a fiery start: The first Formula 2 practice session has to be interrupted after a spectacular accident and a fire.

After approximately 15 minutes, Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak loses control of his ART machine in Turn 19. The 20-year-old Thai driver violently slams into the track barrier rear-first.

Shortly thereafter, the Formula 2 car is engulfed in flames. A dense plume of smoke rises, and the rear of the vehicle is severely damaged.

Inthraphuvasak Remains Uninjured

Fortunately, the spectacular accident ends without serious injury for the ART driver. Inthraphuvasak is able to exit his burning machine independently and get to safety over the track barrier. The Thai driver remains uninjured.

The marshals are quickly on site and extinguish the fire. Subsequently, the heavily damaged car has to be recovered.

The practice session is interrupted for an extended period. Besides the recovery of the machine, the damaged track barrier also needs to be repaired, and the track surface at the accident site must be cleaned.

For Inthraphuvasak, who currently holds tenth place in the Formula 2 drivers' standings, the session is therefore prematurely concluded.
