Two Drivers Handed Penalties in Baku
Carlos Sainz had actually made it into Q3 in Azerbaijan, but now has to start further back. Sergio Perez also receives a penalty.
Setback for Carlos Sainz after his strong qualifying for the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
As became known during Friday, the Williams driver receives a five-place grid penalty. The reason? Race control determined that Sainz had not reduced speed sufficiently during a yellow flag period in Q3.
It's a pity, because the Spaniard had actually placed his car in ninth position after a good qualifying. Instead, he will start Saturday's race (from 13:00 in the LIVE ticker) from 14th on the grid.
Perez also penalized
Sergio Perez was also moved back three places. The Cadillac driver is said to have impeded Oscar Piastri in the first qualifying segment and was penalized for it. However, the Mexican did not get beyond 20th place in qualifying anyway.
