Verstappen Equals Schumacher Record! "I Am Incredibly Proud"
The Red Bull star celebrates his first win of the season in a challenging year. He also sets a two-decade-old Formula 1 record.
He's back on the top step!
Max Verstappen rewards himself after a strong race weekend at the Sepang comeback and celebrates his first win since last year's season finale in Abu Dhabi.
He not only marks a premiere but also equals a 20-year-old F1 record.
Verstappen with First Win of 2026: "It's Impressive"
Because the Austrian racing team celebrates not only Max Verstappen's first win of the season but also its first race victory with its own engine.
"It's quite impressive to win our first race in the very first year with our power unit. I am incredibly proud," the Dutchman declared immediately after the win.
Verstappen also celebrated his 72nd race win with Red Bull Racing. For many F1 fans from past decades, this number is special, as Michael Schumacher also achieved exactly 72 victories during his Ferrari era.
Only Lewis Hamilton was more successful with one constructor, securing 84 race wins during his time at Mercedes.
Will Verstappen Now Fight for More Wins This Season?
Thanks to his victory today, Verstappen might well be competing for wins in the remaining races.
The Dutchman has been back in top form for several months, despite the engine revolution. Verstappen has now made it onto the podium in four consecutive races since the Monza GP.
Whether there will now even be a small winning streak will be seen next weekend in Singapore (in the LIVE ticker >>>)
