163 Million! Highest NHL Contract in History Awarded
The contract is valid for eight years and earns the Colorado Avalanche player a record sum.
Cale Makar (27) commits long-term to his club, the Colorado Avalanche, breaking a record in the process.
He signs an eight-year contract worth 163.2 million US dollars, or an average of 20.4 million dollars annually, an amount never before seen by an NHL player.
The agreement becomes valid starting from the 2027/28 season.

"I am absolutely thrilled and honored to continue wearing the Avalanche jersey and to represent this incredible organization and community. I want to thank the Kroenke family, Joe Sakic, and the entire Avalanche organization for their commitment, trust, and belief in me," Makar explained.
The player won the James Norris Trophy in 2022 and 2025, and was crowned the league's best defenseman.
