Rohrer ejected! Clear ÖEHV defeat against Slovakia
Bader's team keeps a clean sheet in the opening period, but then falls behind following a quick double-strike. Vincenz Rohrer is ejected.
The Austrian national ice hockey team suffered a 1-6 defeat to Slovakia in their second match of the Deutschland Cup.
Slovakia, entering as favorites, started the game on the front foot, a trend that continued throughout the first period.
Shortly before the intermission, however, Wukowits had Austria's best chance so far, but goaltender Jurcak made a strong save following a setup by Thaler.
Quick double for Slovakia
Just seven seconds into the second period, Slovakia took the lead. Bucek danced through the ÖEHV defense, leaving goalie Vorauer with no chance.
Just 1:10 minutes later, it was already 2-0: weak defending by the Austrians allowed Myklukha to beat the goaltender with a shot over the shoulder.
Rohrer ejected!
Things then went from bad to worse for Bader's side: first, Rohrer was ejected from the game after a cross-check to the face of Regenda, and then Slovakia added a third through a Valach rebound to make it 3-0 (26th/PP).
On the power play, Cerderle made it 4-0 with a deflected shot from the blue line (30th). However, Austria pulled one back before the end of the second period: Thaler originally intended to pass across to Haudum, which a Slovak defender managed to block. As he fell, Thaler poked the puck further, and Wukowits tapped it in just before the line (39th).
ÖEHV team presses for second goal, gets caught on the counter
Through Thaler (43rd, 50th), the ÖEHV team had two good chances to make it 2-4. However, Myklukha put the game beyond reach following a cross-pass from Bucek. The Slovak legally directed the puck over the line with his skate (51st).
Bucek rounded off the scoring himself with an unstoppable shot into the top corner (57th).
