Doping Shock! Austrian National Team Player Banned for Two Years

A doping case is shaking Austrian ice hockey.

Kilian Zündel has violated the anti-doping regulations of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and will therefore be banned for two years until September 2028.

The Vorarlberg native was subsequently dismissed without notice by his club, the Graz99ers.

No Appeal Filed

Zündel allegedly received an intravenous infusion totaling more than 100 ml within a 12-hour period on April 30, 2026 – after the end of the season in the win2day ICE Hockey League.

This violates the anti-doping regulations of WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) and its so-called "Prohibited List 2026".

Zündel has accepted the legal measure and waived any legal remedies.

Jerich: "Hits Us Completely Out of the Blue"

99ers President Herbert Jerich expressed shock in a statement: "This situation hits us completely out of the blue. However, we clearly see our values and the values of fair, clean sport violated by this."

He emphasized absolute zero tolerance on the issue of doping. "Our players have been and are regularly and thoroughly tested by NADA (National Anti-Doping Agency, ed.), and all these tests have been negative without exception so far," said Jerich.
