Unlucky – that's the most fitting way to describe the goal that cost Nicolas Wieser the shutout in the Pack Derby against KAC (match report).

On the power play, Paul Huber wanted to play the puck along the boards, but instead hit a referee. The puck rebounded off the official's body to Tobias Sablattnig, who eventually beat Wieser.

It would have been the Graz99ers' first clean sheet against the Rotjacken since October 2020. Back then, the Graz side won in Klagenfurt 2-0.

Wieser, however, isn't upset about it at all: "It was cool! We played a great game and stuck to our game plan. It was nice to win."

As cool and composed as the Villach native presents himself in interviews, so too does he play in goal for the 99ers.

He was able to keep a clean sheet for a long time, despite there being "a few difficult" situations. But KAC repeatedly found themselves frustrated by the Graz netminder.

At just 27 years old, the Carinthian once again delivered a display of talent. "It was my first game against KAC," Wieser mentions casually.

Even More Keen to Play Against VSV

As a Villach native, he says it's "really cool" to play against Klagenfurt.

If he could choose, however, he would prefer to be in goal against VSV. "Playing against your home team is always something very special," he says.

On Sunday, the goalie could get the chance when the "Adler" come to the Graz "Bunker". Wieser would have the strength for it, even though he has now played three games in five days. "I am fit, I feel good."

Invitation to the National Team

Es ist schön, dass ich die Einladung bekommen habe, gesehen werde und die Chance bekomme, bei so einem super Turnier dabei zu sein.

There, Wieser – just like David Kickert and Florian Vorauer – is expected to get playing time. It would be his third international match for Austria.

Wieser is delighted: "It's nice that I received the invitation, that I am being recognized, and get the chance to be part of such a great tournament."

The Villach native feels ready: "With all the games I've had last year and this year, I've gained more and more experience and confidence. I will arrive with good confidence."

Family Gives Strength and Keeps Wieser Grounded

It is the reward for the strong development that Wieser has undergone in recent months.

In April, he helped guide the 99ers to the first championship title in the club's history after starting goalie Max Lagace was sidelined. "The championship title was something very special; I only realized it a month later," Wieser explains.

He tries to stay as grounded as possible. His wife and son Noah help him with this. "My family is the most important thing to me," Wieser emphasizes, "that's the place to switch off. My family gives me so much."
