Is even the season start shaky? VSV plagued by financial problems
Following the resignation of the managing director, financial irregularities are now apparently emerging at the "Eagles".
There is no peace at VSV.
Just a few hours after it became public that Managing Director Martin Winkler had resigned (incidentally, two weeks ago), there is more bad news.
As "ORF Kärnten" and the "Kleine Zeitung" report, financial problems are spreading at the traditional club. According to the daily newspaper, the annual financial statement as of the end of May 2025 shows negative equity of over one million euros.
Winkler was the managing director of EC VSV GmbH, which bundles the operations of the professional team.
Sponsors have pulled out, salary problems
Additionally, sponsors have apparently pulled out. While players are supposed to receive their salaries, according to the "Kleine Zeitung", payments are slow and incomplete.
The start of the season in the win2day ICE Hockey League is not fundamentally at risk, as the "ORF" writes – but under one condition. To secure match operations, VSV must quickly get its problems in order.
Structurally, the Villach team can count on the support of the ICE, but not financially. The ICE clubs agreed not to poach any players from VSV.
Hardly anyone left in the office
According to the "Kleine Zeitung", the situation in the GmbH's office shows how absurd the current situation at VSV is: there are practically no contact persons left, meaning the office is virtually empty.
This raises organizational questions, such as who is now responsible for booking away trips. Nevertheless, training took place normally on Thursday. The last test match before the ICE season start against the Augsburger Panther (Friday, 7:15 PM) is also scheduled to take place.
