The Vienna Capitals announce a high-profile new addition to their goaltending position.

The 34-year-old Swede Adam Reideborn signs a temporary contract in the capital city valid until mid-October.

The left-catching goalie comes to Vienna with an impressive resume. Reideborn's career includes 189 games in the SHL, 154 games in the KHL, 116 games in the Swiss NL, 16 international games for Sweden, and two KHL championship titles.

16 Games for the Swedish National Team

The 34-year-old stood between the pipes for SC Bern for the past three seasons.

This new signing became necessary due to injuries to Sebastian Wraneschitz and Max Zimmermann. Both are dealing with different lower-body injuries and risk missing the start of the season.

Reideborn played in 16 games for the Swedish national team during his career. The goalie represented his country at the World Championship in 2021. After five World Championship games, he recorded a save percentage of 94.6 percent. A year later, Reideborn was part of Sweden's Olympic squad but did not see action in Beijing.

"A Quick Decision"

Adam Reideborn is pleased about the transfer: "When he signed with the Vienna Capitals in the summer, I spoke with Jakob Lilja. After his arrival in Vienna, we reconnected. He only had good things to say. So I had a good feeling about the organization even before it was an option to come here. Once the Capitals contacted me, it was a quick decision on my part."

"My goal was to start my season with a good team. Hopefully, we can pick up some wins and then we'll see. Physically, I feel good. I've kept myself fit at home and been on the ice. I haven't been able to train with the team yet, so we'll see how the first game goes, but I feel ready to help the team. I looked at the roster beforehand and noticed that we have a lot of experience. I've seen some names I've played against in my career, including my new goalie coach Bernhard Starkbaum," said Reideborn.

Jersey Number 39 for Reideborn

Reideborn is expected to arrive in Vienna on Friday and will be in action on Saturday against HK Dukla Trencin. The Swede will wear jersey number 39, which he previously wore at Djurgårdens IF and for the Swedish national team.

Sebastian Wraneschitz and Max Zimmermann, however, are not available. While a precise prognosis for Wraneschitz is still pending and the start of the season is seriously jeopardized, Zimmermann might only be match-fit at the beginning of the season with an ideal healing process.

Christian Dolezal, Sports Director of the Vienna Capitals, says: "Sebi has been suffering from a persistent lower-body injury since the second week of training, which we are trying to get under control with a special therapy. As of now, we cannot name a specific date for his comeback. Max sustained a minor lower-body injury the day before the exhibition game against KAC. He is on the road to recovery and is starting with light exercise."

"Both need a certain build-up phase to ultimately be ready for league play. Adam's signing is intended to give them the necessary time for that. At the same time, with Adam, we are getting a goaltender who has performed in the best leagues in Europe. We have to be ready for the start of the season and therefore cannot take any risks. We simply owe that to our partners and fans. We are pleased to welcome Adam to our Caps family," explains Dolezal.
