On the 13th matchday of the win2day ICE Hockey League, fans of the Carinthian clubs have much to celebrate.
KAC defeats Fehervar 6:3, while VSV prevails over Ferencvaros with a 4:1 scoreline.
Spectacular goals in Klagenfurt
The Red Jackets start Wednesday evening confidently. Thomas Hundertpfund scores the first goal from close range after a moment of confusion from the Fehervar goalkeeper (11.). Drozg makes it 2:0 in the 19th minute after excellent preparatory work by St. Denis and Hudson.
In the second period, the Carinthians continue to build their lead for the victory. While Fehervar manages to pull one back through Kiss (23.), KAC delivers crucial blows through Sablattnig (26.), Schwinger (29.), and Jenson Aabo's spectacular long-range goal for a 5:1 lead (37.).
Fehervar's late offensive too little, too late
Fehervar attempts a comeback with goals from Cheek (49.) and Cyr on the powerplay (59.), but this is ultimately ended by an empty-net goal from Finn van Ee (60.).
With a final score of 6:3, KAC moves up to third place in the standings. Fehervar finds itself in 13th place.
VSV bounces back
After three consecutive defeats, VSV secures an important victory. The foundation for the win is laid early on.
Sproul finds Canadian Joel Teasdale, who nets the 1:0 goal (17.). Otherwise, little happens in what is initially a game with few chances.
More goals are scored in the middle period. Wallenta doubles the lead in the 25th minute, making it 2:0. Ferencvaros regains courage with Savoie's 2:1 consolation goal (28.).
It's Teasdale again
However, a powerplay goal just one minute later quickly complicates their efforts. Teasdale scores for the second time this evening (29.).
In the final period, Ferencvaros is unlucky with a shot hitting the post. Rauchenwald scores the decisive goal in the 54th minute, making the final score 4:1.
The Villach team thus climbs to an interim ninth place in the ICE Hockey League standings, overtaking the Budapest team, who are now eleventh.
