Vincenzo Montella's days as head coach of the Turkish national football team appear to be numbered.

According to reports by the Turkish newspaper "Milliyet" on Wednesday, the Italian's dismissal as head coach is said to be sealed.

Accordingly, association president İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu and the executive board are said to have decided to part ways with Montella. There is no official confirmation yet.

The 52-year-old is reportedly set to receive severance pay amounting to nearly one million Euros.

Downward Spiral After Successful Start

The Turkish Football Federation is thus reacting to the sporting decline that has persisted for months. After a disastrous World Cup group stage in the summer, the team suffered four consecutive defeats in the most recent training camp at the start of the UEFA Nations League.

Against France (0:1), Italy (1:4 and 1:3), and Belgium (0:3), there was nothing for Arda Güler and Co. to gain in Group A.

Montella had taken office in 2023 and led Turkey into Group A of the Nations League as well as to their first World Cup participation since 2002.
