With Bundesliga Trio: Foda Names Kosovo Squad
The former ÖFB national team coach calls up 27 players for the Nations League. Among them are three professionals from the ADMIRAL Bundesliga.
Franco Foda has named his 27-man squad for Kosovo's upcoming Nations League matches. Austria awaits a double encounter with the former ÖFB national team coach.
Vesel Demaku (SCR Altach), Valmir Matoshi (Sturm Graz), and Dion Kacuri (Austria Lustenau) are three players from the ADMIRAL Bundesliga also included in the squad.
For Kacuri, it is his first call-up to the Kosovan national team. The 22-year-old was still playing for the Swiss U21 team in March but has now decided to play for Kosovo.
Matoshi and Demaku were already part of the squad in previous international breaks. Matoshi has two caps and one goal to date, while Demaku has five appearances.
For Demaku, the clash with Austria on September 27 in Vienna will be particularly special: the 26-year-old was born in Austria and also played for Austrian youth national teams.
Three Debutants in the Squad
Besides Kacuri, Milot Avdyli from Slovenian club NK Celje and the only 17-year-old Erblin Osmani from FC Bayern can also look forward to their first call-up. This means there are a total of three potential debutants in the squad.
However, Foda must do without his previous captain Amir Rrahmani. The centre-back ended his national team career after a dispute with the federation president. Florent Muslija and Elvis Rexhbecaj, two other key players, are missing due to injury.
Four Matches in Ten Days
Kosovo has four matches scheduled during the Nations League break. On September 24, Foda's team will host Ireland, before traveling to Vienna on September 27 for a clash with Austria.
On October 1, they will face Israel away, before the Kosovans meet the ÖFB team again on October 4 in Pristina.
