Xavi Hernández has nominated the Netherlands' 26-man squad for the upcoming Nations League clashes.

Among them is Ruben van Bommel, son of Bayern Munich legend Mark van Bommel. The 22-year-old could make his debut for the national team.

Van Bommel is currently under contract with PSV Eindhoven, alongside Austrian international Paul Wanner.

Newcomers meet experienced players

Also new to the squad is Gjivai Zechiel from Rotterdam. The new Oranje duo can count on the experience of players such as van Dijk (Liverpool FC), Aké (Fenerbahce), Dumfries (Real Madrid), Frimpong, Gakpo, Gravenberch (all Liverpool FC), Malen (AS Roma), and Timber (Arsenal FC).

Head coach Xavi is satisfied with the squad, stating he has enough options and sufficient flexibility. He further adds: "At the same time, this squad size allows us to work in a targeted manner and thoroughly evaluate all players. For me as head coach, it is also valuable to observe them closely and get to know them better, as we will be working together intensively for the first time."

The Netherlands will face Germany on September 24th. This will be followed by clashes with Serbia (Sep 27), Greece (Oct 1), and Serbia again (Oct 4). For the coach himself, it will be his debut as head coach of the Netherlands.
