Can Julian Alvarez leave Atletico after all?
According to a media report from Spain, the capital club is now considering selling the striker after all. However, not to a rival.
The situation is actually clear: Julian Alvarez wants to join FC Barcelona, and the Catalans are determined to sign the Argentine superstar.
The problem? Atletico Madrid is unwilling to let the striker go to a direct competitor under any circumstances. Negotiations have been ongoing for weeks without an agreement. Just a few days ago, club president Enrique Cerezo put an end to all speculation about a departure.
London instead of Barcelona
According to information from the Spanish "Mundo Deportivo," there might now be a change of heart in the capital. The "Rojiblancos" are reportedly willing to let the 26-year-old go.
However, not to Barcelona, but to FC Arsenal, who are also said to have great interest. But Alvarez himself does not want to move to London; instead, he prefers a transfer to Barca.
The situation is complicated and will likely generate a lot of attention until Deadline Day on September 1. The Argentinian is under contract until summer 2030 and has a market value of 120 million euros.
His release clause, customary in LaLiga, however, amounts to a hefty 500 million euros.
Alternative Lautaro?
FC Barcelona, in turn, is said to have been looking into possible alternatives in recent days. Among them, national teammate Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan came into focus.
However, a transfer for Inter's 28-year-old captain is also considered difficult.
