Arnautovic's Coach Resigns After Missed CL Qualification

The two Austrian internationals Marko Arnautovic and Muhammed Cham are getting a new head coach!

Just a few hours after Red Star Belgrade's surprising exit from the UEFA Champions League qualification against Hapoel Beer Sheva, head coach Dejan Stankovic has resigned.

Resignation

Still on Tuesday night, club legend Stankovic bid farewell to his team and announced his resignation. In the second leg against Hapoel, the coach even saw a red card and subsequently had to leave the field to whistles from his own fans.

Meanwhile, Red Star has officially confirmed the departure of the head coach.

For the 47-year-old, his second tenure in Belgrade thus ends bitterly. The Serb only took over the club from Arnautovic and Cham last December and led the club to the league title. However, the Champions League goal has now been missed.

First Successor Candidates

The club now wants to present a successor by Friday. According to Serbian media, Aleksandar Kolarov, former Frankfurt coach Albert Riera, and coaching legend Rafael Benitez are on the shortlist.

For Red Star, things are moving quickly. After the exit from the CL qualification, they will continue in the UEFA Europa League playoffs. There they will face Czech representative Viktoria Plzen.
