ÖFB Showdown in 2. Bundesliga Opener: Hertha Edges Bochum
The Berliners celebrate an opening victory in the German second division. Adewumi wins the "internal" ÖFB duel against Steinwender.
A successful start for Hertha BSC!
The Berliners celebrate a 1-0 away victory against VfL Bochum on the opening day of the 2. German Bundesliga season.
Both ÖFB defender Michael Steinwender (Bochum) and Oluwaseun Adewumi (Hertha) made their debut in Germany.
Hertha, meanwhile, set the tone in Bochum before the break and celebrated a deserved opening goal.
Hertha Takes the Lead and Secures the Win
Dane Sebastian Grönnig exquisitely chipped the ball into the right corner (39'). After the half-time break, the Berliners then focused on defense and, with a bit of luck, held on to their lead.
Steinwender played the full match in the Berliners' central defense. Adewumi only came into the game for Bochum in the closing stages (86') and could no longer prevent the defeat.
