Former Salzburg coach Matthias Jaissle celebrated an almost successful Premier League debut with Newcastle United against Liverpool FC. His team led 2-1 until shortly before the end, when the referee pointed to the spot after a supposed foul. VAR remained silent.

Former Salzburg player Dominik Szoboszlai still salvaged a point for Liverpool. Jaissle was not a fan of the foul call.

"I know the referee has a difficult job and VAR has to make decisions, but that's exactly why we have to be careful. There has to be enough contact and a clear foul to award a penalty," the German said at the post-match press conference.

Jaissle is wary of fines

The players collided knee-to-knee. "That's not enough for a penalty, and Newcastle deserves more," said Jaissle, who called the whole thing a "soft penalty."

However, for financial reasons, he doesn't want to fully express his thoughts. "I'm not a big fan of this decision. I can't say everything because I could get into trouble and have to pay fines."
