Nightmare Streak Continues! Tottenham Lose Again
The "Spurs" suffer their third defeat in five games and remain winless.
Tottenham invested around 360 million euros in new players after last season's disastrous campaign and 17th-place finish!
The reality in the new season? Five games, three defeats, and a goal difference of 2:8. On the fifth matchday of the English Premier League, the "Spurs" also suffered a 1:3 home defeat against Aston Villa.
And of all teams, against one that was also still winless before the match.
One-sided Affair
Former Freiburg player Johan Manzambi gave the "Villans" the lead shortly before half-time (45.+4). For the Swiss World Cup shooting star, it's his first start after his 60-million-euro transfer to the island.
After the break, Nicolas Jackson, assisted by Manzambi, scored another goal to make it 2:0 (67.). But that wasn't enough. Emiliano Buendia extended the lead to 3:0 (79.) after an assist from captain John McGinn.
Tottenham managed to pull one back through substitute Connor Gallagher (86.), who had just come on. It is the first goal for the "Spurs" after 446 goalless minutes in the Premier League.
Deep into stoppage time, Jan Paul van Hecke managed to reduce the deficit to 2:3 (90.+8).
While Aston Villa jumps to 15th place, Tottenham remains in a direct relegation spot with two points.
