FC Salzburg suffered a 4-0 defeat to AC Milan on the second matchday of the UEFA Europa League (match report >>>).

Against a Milan side that had little trouble, Salzburg appeared harmless up front and vulnerable at the back. A numerical advantage at the end of the game was not enough for a consolation goal.

LAOLA1 analyzes the performance of all Salzburg players and assigns ratings (1=Excellent, 2=Good, 3=Satisfactory, 4=Sufficient, 5=Insufficient, "-" = played too short for a rating).

test

Christian Zawieschitzky

90 Minutes

The Salzburg player least to blame for the defeat. Had no chance to save the goals, but showed some good moments. For instance, strong in a one-on-one in the 18th minute, and a good foot save in the 67th minute. Solid on long-range shots and high balls.

test

Leandro Morgalla

81 Minutes

It wasn't his game. Although he started well and fought his way back into the match before being substituted, there was a lot of struggling in between. He was repeatedly too far from his opponents, offering virtually no resistance on the cross for the 0-1. He switched to the left temporarily, where Hutchinson completely outplayed him. Back on the right, he first played a pass to Tabakovic from behind the goal line and then lost sight of two opponents for the 0-2 – though he was also left completely exposed by his teammates there.

test

Kevin Boma

90 Minutes

By far the most reliable Salzburg player in the back four. Showed great physical presence, especially in the first 60 minutes, making a crucial goal-line clearance in the 17th minute. Towards the end of the game, however, he wasn't quite as stable, though admittedly the match was long since decided by then.

test

Valentin Zabransky

90 Minutes, Yellow Card

Overall, he seemed overwhelmed against the Milan players. Started the game with a cheap misplaced pass (2nd minute) and could only chase after his opponent during a prime chance in the 17th minute. In the second half, he committed a very clear shove against Hutchinson in a running duel, being fortunate that the referee didn't award a penalty. Sometimes benefited from Boma, who covered for him.

test

Dominik Schmid

90 Minutes

Overall, it wasn't enough. Struggled heavily against opponent Hutchinson, who did whatever he wanted with him. Had rare moments – for example, he drew the red card for Milan. But it didn't amount to anything in the end.

test

Abubakr Barry

90 Minutes

Despite fairly decent statistics – 107 touches, 92 percent passing accuracy, 75 percent passing accuracy into the final third – not really the factor one would hope for in a double pivot. Sometimes faded a bit; a highlight was a tackle against Cisse in the 38th minute.

test

Bartosz Mazurek

90 Minutes

In Salzburg's harmless offensive play, he was one of the better performers for a long time. Strong individual action in the eleventh minute, long-range shot wide in the 25th minute. But also made unnecessary errors repeatedly. This was the case for the 0-4, where a miscontrol from him initiated the goal.

test

Jesper Lindstrøm

73 Minutes

Had good moments in the early stages, but they became rare thereafter. Kept trying, and his best opportunity came after the break, but his finishing quality was completely off.

test

Sota Kitano

60 Minutes

Covered a wide area when pressing in the early stages, making it uncomfortable for Milan at first. However, he then lost his physicality in the game and had few relevant actions thereafter.

test

Edmund Baidoo

60 Minutes

Showed good promise in the opening minutes, but made wrong decisions. Became increasingly harmless as the game progressed. Won just three of his 13 duels and registered 13 turnovers. It was telling how easily Milan keeper Maignan dispossessed him with a tackle after the break.

test

Haris Tabaković

73 Minutes

A difficult game for him. Tried everything in his power before the break. Fought, shielded the ball, made himself available. But mostly received thankless passes. He showed he was ready in the 23rd minute when he tapped in – but the ball had already gone out of play. The longer the game went on, the sloppier his actions became.

test

Gaossou Diakité

from 60th Minute

Brought momentum into Salzburg's game. In the 70th minute, he casually fumbled in front of goal; in the 81st minute, he blasted the ball into the side netting. He then tested Maignan again from long range (88th).

test

Yorbe Vertessen

from 60th Minute

His substitution had a positive impact on the game. In added time, he came close to a consolation goal, unleashing a powerful shot from a turn – just over the bar.

test

Damir Redzic

from 73rd Minute

Attempted to spark play from the right half-space. However, Milan wasn't truly threatened.

test

Aboubacar Camara

from 73rd Minute

Had little impact after coming on.

test

Tim Drexler

from 81st Minute

Played too short for a rating.
