How the European Cup Evening Unfolded for the ÖFB Legionaries
Six Austrians are celebrating their progression to the playoffs. However, none registered a goal contribution. For two ÖFB players, the European adventure comes to an end.
A rather successful evening for the ÖFB Legionaries in the European qualifiers!
FC Thun and Furkan Dursun, a club featuring an ÖFB Legionary, were in action today, Thursday, in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League.
The former Rapid player, however, did not feature in the 2-3 defeat against Vikingur (Iceland) and only sat on the bench. Nevertheless, the Swiss champions qualified for the playoff thanks to a 3-0 first-leg win.
Lech Posen or Klaksvik (first leg 1-0) now awaits them there. The match will take place on Friday at 8 PM, as the Poles had travel issues due to the weather (All Info >>>).
Success in UEFA Conference League Qualifiers
The evening also proved successful for Lukas Fadinger and Martin Moormann. The two Austrians won the second leg against HJK (Finland) with Motherwell by a score of 2-0, thereby advancing to the next round with an aggregate score of 3-1. Both ÖFB players played the full match.
Borac Banja Luka (Bosnia-Herzegovina), featuring ÖFB Legionary Stefan Savic, also advanced to the playoffs. The club suffered a 1-2 defeat at ML Vitebsk (Belarus) but secured their progression to the next round in a penalty shootout. Savic played until the 77th minute.
Erik Kojzek and Partizan Belgrade followed up their first-leg win with another 2-1 victory away at Tobol (Kazakhstan) in the second leg, advancing to the playoffs with a 5-1 aggregate score. The young forward was substituted at halftime.
Raphael Sallinger and Hibernian can also celebrate reaching the playoffs. The Scots drew 0-0 away at Shkendija (North Macedonia) and advanced to the next round with a 1-0 aggregate score. Sallinger played the full match in goal.
Monsberger and Gruber Exit
For FC Vaduz, the European adventure ends in the third round. The Liechtensteiners drew 2-2 at home against Inter Turku (Finland) and were eliminated after a 1-2 first-leg defeat. ÖFB Legionary Marcel Monsberger played the full match.
Debrecen were already facing elimination after the first leg. The Slovaks suffered a 0-6 defeat away at Twente (Netherlands). In the second leg, the team of former Rapid coach Robert Klauß appeared much more stable and at least managed a 3-3 draw. ÖFB player Andreas Gruber was not in the squad.
