FC Salzburg was chanceless in the 0:4 defeat against AC Milan on the second matchday of the Europa League group stage. Match report >>>

The "Rossoneri" were extremely clinical in front of goal, with 19-year-old Alphadjo Cisse even bagging a hat-trick.

"You have to score goals when they're needed. Milan impressively demonstrated that today with their individual players and their qualities," says Canal+ expert Robert Almer.

Undeniable Quality Gap

Not only Salzburg, but all of Austrian football must work on possessing these qualities themselves, says the former ÖFB national team goalkeeper.

If you look at LASK's match against FC Liverpool and Salzburg's game against Milan, you can see that a certain quality difference exists.

The devil is in the details. "Man-marking, ball possession, pressing – these are simply nuances where we are lagging behind and need to improve to be able to compete with such teams," says Almer.

The Next Level Is Too Big

This is about continuous work, as was already the case in Salzburg a few years ago, emphasizes Georg Teigl. "They didn't cause a stir by chance," he adds.

Overall, an upward trend was visible in domestic football in the past. "However, that was a reality check, I have to be honest," Teigl says, disappointed. "The calibre of a top team is unfortunately simply too much for us at the moment."

Italy also had its problems recently, but top clubs like Milan or Juventus still have difference-makers in their ranks.

Teigl states clearly: "Whether it's a Hutchinson or Cisse – you can put them in any team in the world, and they will cause problems for the opponent. I think we have too few of these strong dribbling wide players in our league."
