Italy reportedly has new head coach

The search for a head coach in Italy is reportedly coming to an end. As "Sky" and other outlets report, ex-coach Roberto Mancini is returning to the role.

Mancini was already Italy's head coach between 2018 and 2023, and in 2021, he won the European Championship with his home country.

Inglorious departure three years ago

After failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, his departure in August 2023 was inglorious. At that time, he moved to Saudi Arabia as head coach, and his tenure there already ended in October 2024.

Between November 2025 and June 2026, he also coached Al-Sadd in Qatar.

Mancini faces the task of Euro 2028, after which he is supposed to lead Italy to a World Cup again. They last qualified twelve years ago, and the World Cup knockout phase has not been reached since 2006 (when they were world champions).
