Opponent from Israel! But Wiener Austria Must Play in Another Country
Beitar Jerusalem is the Violets' next Conference League opponent. The first leg will be played on neutral ground.
The opponent for Wiener Austria in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League is Beitar Jerusalem. The Israelis advanced past AEK Larnaca, despite a 2-3 defeat in the second leg, after a penalty shootout.
Following the Israelis' 1-0 win in the first leg, the second leg, played on neutral ground in Ploiesti, Romania, was a back-and-forth affair. Larnaca took the lead twice through Milicevic (26th min/penalty, 52nd min), with Beitar equalizing both times through Atzili (45th+2 min/penalty, 87th min).
Just when it looked like the Israelis would advance, Bajic forced extra time (90th+2 min), in which no goals were scored.
In the penalty shootout, four of Beitar's shooters were flawless, while two of the five Cypriots missed.
The first leg will be played next Thursday (August 6) again in Ploiesti, with the return leg scheduled for August 13 in Vienna.
