Real Madrid beats Inter Milan 2-1 in Jose Mourinho's Champions League comeback.

The Spaniards take an early 2-0 lead due to Inter's own errors. Kylian Mbappé and Federico Valverde score for the "Royals". Carlos Augusto's consolation goal is not enough for the reigning Serie A champions.

Inter actually starts the match much better.

The Italians look sharp and create numerous chances in the first 13 minutes. Thibaut Courtois keeps the Madrilenians in the game with good saves.

And then, as so often, it's French superstar Kylian Mbappé. Yann Aurel Bisseck is careless in the Milan defense, and Brahim Diaz snatches the ball from him.

The Moroccan immediately looks for the World Cup's all-time leading scorer up front, and he coolly finishes for 1-0 (14').

Inter invites the "Royals"

The 2-0 goal is also a gift from the Italians.

Goalkeeper Josep Martinez, who was trained in FC Barcelona's youth academy, hesitates on a back pass from Benjamin Pavard and is pressured by a full-sprint Federico Valverde.

The Uruguayan steals the ball from the Spaniard, and it rolls into the empty net (23'). You can't perform like that at the Bernabeu.

Despite being behind, Inter stays in the game and challenges Real's defense.

Curtis Jones hits the crossbar after good ball retention (36'). Until the end of the first half, last year's Serie A champions push the Madrilenians back into defense.

But then: Shortly before the half-time whistle, Real moves quickly down the left flank via Mbappé. Martinez saves against the Frenchman and against Bellingham on the rebound. That should have been 3-0.

Courtois is the final stop time and again

The Belgian, especially in the second half, drives the Italians to despair.

The goalkeeper saves everything there is to save and also stops shots that are seemingly impossible to parry.

Above all, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez often finds his match in Courtois.

Real is careless with chances

Real's victory could have been even wider.

After an incredible dribble by Brahim Diaz, Bellingham could have headed into an empty net, but he takes another touch and is thwarted by Martinez (58').

Mbappé could also have extended the lead (67'). After a good ball recovery, the Madrilenians run 4 against 3 towards the Milan goal, but Diaz pushes the ball a meter wide of the net (69').

If you don't score up front, you concede at the back.

Real has to reproach itself for that. After an assist from Martinez, Carlos Augusto scores the 2-1 consolation goal (77').

But the Italians deserved that. This time, Courtois had no chance to save.

Inter fails to equalize

Inter still has several chances to equalize in the final phase.

Especially during a short period when the Madrilenians are playing with only ten men because Vinicius Jr. takes too long during a substitution, the Italians create several more chances.

But Courtois remains the measure of all things on this Champions League evening and saves three points for his "Royals" in the opener.

Real Betis beats OSC Lille 2-3. The "Verdiblancos" come back from a 2-1 deficit.

Ayase Ueda (12') and Alexsandro Ribeiro (36') score for the French side. But then the Spaniards turn the game around. Marc Bartra becomes the match-winner with a brace (33' and 49').

In the 58th minute, Ethan Mbappé, the younger brother of the French superstar, commits an act of violence and rightly receives a red card for it.

Lille must travel to London to face Arsenal in their next Champions League match. Real Betis will face Porto next.
