Provocative Celebration: Ried Striker Caused a Stir
Niama Pape Sissoko scored SV Ried's first win of the season – and then caused a stir with his celebration.
SV Ried can celebrate their first win of the season on the fourth matchday of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga. In the 1-0 victory against GAK, Niama Pape Sissoko emerged as the match-winner (to the match report >>>).
The 20-year-old Malian converted a penalty in first-half stoppage time, scoring for the second consecutive time in the Bundesliga. However, it wasn't just his goal that attracted attention afterwards.
Sissoko Provokes GAK Fans
Sissoko celebrated directly in front of the GAK away sector, drawing the anger of the Graz fans. GAK player Peter Michorl also didn't let the action go unchallenged.
The veteran confronted Sissoko, which led to a fierce verbal exchange between the two. Referee Daniel Pfister finally intervened and showed both players a yellow card.
"That Shouldn't Have Happened"
Even Sissoko's own teammates weren't particularly impressed by the celebration. Ante Bajic described the action as unnecessary in a "Sky" interview after the match.
"That shouldn't have happened. He knows that himself; he also apologized to us at halftime," explains Bajic.
Sissoko is playing for SV Ried on loan this season and, with his two goals, has played a significant role in the Innviertler's successful start to the season.
For GAK, however, the situation remains tense. After the 0-8 defeat against Rapid last week, the Graz team suffered their second consecutive loss.
