Ried signs center-back with Europa League experience
The 31-year-old Croatian won the cup twice in his home country with HNK Rijeka. Most recently, he was under contract with FK Backa Topola in Serbia.
Luka Capan is moving from Serbia to SV Ried.
The 31-year-old center-back signs a contract until 2028 with the Innviertlers. With HNK Rijeka, he played in the Europa League, among other competitions, and also won the Croatian Cup twice.
His last club was FK Backa Topola in the Serbian 2nd League.
Familiar with Austrian Football
SVR Sporting Director Lukas Brandl: "We have been observing Luka for a while and are glad that the opportunity to sign him has now arisen. He brings a wealth of international experience and stabilizes us because he can fill several roles in our playing philosophy. Luka is a dynamic, strong-tackling, and technically sophisticated player. Furthermore, he will help our young players take the next steps and establish themselves in our professional squad."
Luka Capan: "This is the right step in my career for me now. Ried has a good team, the club is very well organized and family-like," says Luka Capan.
"Of course, it would be great if we could reach the Upper Play-off and go as far as possible in the Cup. Austria is not far from my home country, which is why I am familiar with Austrian football. However, the football here is quite different from in Croatia. Here in Austria, it is faster with more intensity and goals. I am really looking forward to it."
