Rapid overtakes Salzburg again!

On the sixth matchday of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga, Wolfsberger AC loses 0-3 against SK Rapid. Both of Rapid's centre-backs score in Carinthia.

From kick-off, Rapid were the better team against a WAC side plagued by injuries. The Viennese had significantly more possession and pushed the hosts back into their own half, without creating many chances themselves.

Raux-Yao gives Rapid the lead

After 13 minutes, Rapid took the lead from their first real chance: Demir sent the free-kick from the half-way line high into the box, where Raux-Yao broke free with a powerful run. The Rapid defender connected with the ball with his head and scored to make it 0-1 with a powerful header; WAC goalkeeper Gütlbauer didn't look great in the process.

WAC's only opportunity in the first half also came from a set-piece. Fitz took a direct free-kick just outside the box, but Hedl in the Rapid goal emerged victorious with a flying save (27.).

Cvetkovic also on target

When Demir narrowly missed the goal with a shot from distance, the referee spotted a minimal touch from WAC keeper Gütlbauer and awarded a corner. Bolla received the short-played ball back from Demir and then delivered the cross. At the far post, Cvetkovic won his aerial duel and put the ball into the net. 0-2 for Rapid after a controversial corner.

Immediately before the break, there was another controversial scene. Dahl went down in the penalty area, but instead of a penalty for Rapid, he was shown a yellow card for diving.

Dahl seals the victory

In the second half, Thomas Silberberger's WAC found their way into the game a little better. Rapid remained dominant in terms of possession, but the Carinthians also had some offensive actions of their own. For example, Sulzner, who was set free by Mamageishvili and only hit his teammate Verhounig with his shot from distance (56.).

Verhounig himself narrowly failed to beat the Rapid goalkeeper from close range and collided heavily with Hedl while following up (65.). In the final phase, however, Rapid finally sealed the deal. Dahl tapped Tilio's square pass into the net for 0-3, and by then the match was decided (82.).

With the full victory in Wolfsberg, Rapid now has 15 points and climbs past Salzburg to second place in the table, level on points with defending champions LASK at least until tomorrow. WAC slips to tenth place with five points.
