GAK celebrates first Bundesliga win under Scheiblehner

Grazer AK celebrates their first win under new coach Gerald Scheiblehner on the sixth matchday of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga. The "Rotjacken" prevailed 2-1 in the relegation battle against SCR Altach.

For the Graz team, it's an important relief after difficult weeks. Altach, however, has now lost their fourth consecutive league match.

GAK Gets Off to a Better Start

The visitors got off to a better start and took the lead as early as the sixth minute. Peter Michorl delivered a corner kick from the left precisely onto the head of Yannick Oberleitner, who won the aerial duel and scored to make it 1-0.

Altach, however, gradually found their way into the game. Patrick Greil initially missed the near post with a header, and a little later, Niklas Niehoff chipped the ball over GAK goalkeeper Cican Stankovic onto the crossbar. The goal would not have counted anyway due to an offside position.

Shortly thereafter, Niehoff squandered another good opportunity before the Vorarlberg team finally got their deserved equalizer. After a quickly taken throw-in by Benjamin Böckle, Yann Massombo shot from a tight angle and beat Stankovic at the near post (25th minute).

For Massombo, it was a special comeback: The Frenchman was in the starting eleven for the first time since his suspension.

Hofleitner Puts GAK Back in Front

After that, an open match unfolded with chances on both sides. Daniel Maderner missed the goal from about 30 meters, while on the other side, Niehoff failed to beat Stankovic with a back-heel attempt.

Shortly before halftime, GAK struck again. After a throw-in, Liam Hermesh crossed into the penalty area, where Alexander Hofleitner prevailed against Rassa Rahmani and clinically finished into the right corner (38th minute).

Thus, the Graz team went into halftime with a 2-1 lead, despite the hosts' temporary superiority.

Altach Finds No Answer

After the break, Altach pushed for an equalizer. In the 56th minute, it was close: Patrick Greil sent Niehoff through down the right side, but his sharp cross whizzed past both Mike-Steven Bähre and Ousmane Diawara.

Greil tried his luck from distance himself a little later, but his shot was no problem for Stankovic (59th minute).

GAK, for their part, almost scored a third goal. Anderson was played through in the box but was denied by Dejan Stojanovic (62nd minute).

Altach coach Ognjen Zaric subsequently reacted with offensive substitutions, but the hosts could no longer find an equalizer.

Thus, GAK celebrates their first Bundesliga win under Scheiblehner and jumps to sixth place in the table with seven points. Altach remains eleventh with three points.

Next Saturday, GAK will host bottom-placed Austria Wien. Altach will visit Austria Lustenau.
