Last-Minute Goal Secures Hartberg First Season Win
Just when a draw between Altach and Hartberg seemed certain, Benjamin Markus emerged to secure a last-gasp victory for the Styrian side.
In the 4th round of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga, TSV Hartberg celebrated their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory against SCR Altach.
Not much happened in the early stages. However, after a good long ball from Konstantin Schopp, son of coach Markus Schopp, Hartberg took the lead. Lukas Jäger misjudged the ball, Dejan Stojanovic failed to come off his line, and Angelo Gattermayer capitalized to score the opener (16').
This was Hartberg's very first goal of the Bundesliga season, having failed to score in their first three matches.
Altach Emerge Strongly After the Break
Little happened thereafter; Altach were too imprecise upfront, while the Styrian side continued to rely on quick counter-attacks and long balls, which also rarely found their target.
After half an hour, Hartberg defender Fabian Willfinger blocked a shot from Srdjan Hrstic. Ten minutes later, Niklas Niehoff shot over the bar from a good position. At the other end, Tobias Kainz tested the Altach goal again, but Stojanovic was able to save his long-range effort.
Altach emerged much more forcefully after the break. First, Patrick Greil headed just over the bar, then he hit the crossbar, before the equalizer came: Niklas Niehoff crossed to Ousmane Diawara, who beat Hartberg goalkeeper Armin Pecsi with a well-placed header (53').
Chances for Both Teams, but Hartberg Prevail
The game now had significantly more intensity. In the following minutes, Greil had two good opportunities for Altach, but found his match in Pecsi. For Hartberg, Marco Hoffmann and Kainz came close to scoring the go-ahead goal, but the former was thwarted by Stojanovic, and the latter shot into the side netting.
After Greil again headed just over the bar, the game entered a phase with fewer chances. In the final stages, Hoffmann initially got a shot off, but it wasn't good enough. Just when everyone was expecting a draw, Hartberg managed to score the winning goal from the very last action.
Altach's defense was disorganized. Hoffmann set up Benjamin Markus, who scored to make it 2-1 with the last action of the game (90+3').
In the standings, the Vorarlbergers remain in eleventh place with three points after four matchdays, while Hartberg are now ninth with the same number of points.
