Lustenau Gets Crushed in Salzburg
Salzburg secures a dominant 5-0 home victory against Austria Lustenau, keeping pace with Rapid. The Vorarlbergers suffer another heavy defeat.
Following their away win last weekend against LASK and their progression in the Cup, the Salzburgers can build on their success in Matchday 11 of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga. The Bulls defeat Austria Lustenau 5-1.
Lustenau were able to keep up with Salzburg in the early stages but had to concede the first goal early on.
Clear Lead at Halftime
Yorbe Vertessen created some space for himself on the left edge of the penalty area and took a shot. Goalkeeper Domenik Schierl got a hand to the low shot into the right corner but couldn't prevent the goal (12').
After taking the lead, Salzburg stepped up their game and quickly aimed to add more goals. However, their initial shots were either too imprecise or were saved by Schierl. A shot from Mazurek also crashed against the inside of the post.
After just under half an hour, the Lustenau goalkeeper was again without a chance. Frans Krätzig exploited the visitors' passive defensive behaviour, advancing unchallenged down the right side into the penalty area and netting from a central position to make it 2-0 (27').
Before the break, the Siezenheimers established a clear lead. Vertessen was served the ball on his head and laid it off for the advancing full-back Tim Drexler. He hammered the ball powerfully under the crossbar (35'). Once again, the Vorarlberg defence could only watch.
Lustenau Under Constant Pressure
The same picture emerged after the break: Salzburg pushed Austria Lustenau deep back. Five minutes after the restart, Vertessen had a chance for 4-0 following a pass from Tabakovic, but he shot just wide of the post.
Subsequently, Salzburg rested some key players and took some of the pace out of the game. The Vorarlbergers also started to create chances. The best of these was missed by substitute Antonio Verinac in the 65th minute when he failed to convert a header from close range.
After 68 minutes, Salzburg added another goal – once again with the active assistance of Lustenau. A corner kick slipped through and ultimately bounced off substitute Robin Voisine into his own net. However, the Lustenau player could hardly be blamed for it.
Barry Crowns Strong Performance
Abubakr Barry crowned his strong performance with the goal for 5-0. The ex-Austrian player had plenty of space at the edge of the penalty area and cleverly curled the ball into the far corner. Schierl in the Lustenau goal could only watch (82').
Salzburg decisively won the home match with clear superiority. Lustenau thus had to concede multiple goals again. In stoppage time, Gashi and Weixelbraun scored two more goals out of nowhere, but the second was disallowed by VAR for offside (90'+2/90'+3).
Salzburg Maintains Pressure
With these three points, Red Bull Salzburg maintains pressure on SK Rapid. Lustenau suffer their fourth consecutive defeat and continue to battle at the bottom of the table.
On the next matchday, both teams face a Graz-themed weekend. Salzburg will visit SK Sturm, while Austria Lustenau will host GAK.
