FLORIAN WIEGELE
90 Minutes
Strong starting XI debut for the giant goalkeeper, who provided much security and stability. He was helpless against Parrott's shot through his long legs and guessed the wrong way for the penalty. He also played an active part in securing the point with a superb save against O'Shea shortly before the end. Otherwise, as expected, very secure with high balls, though probably a touch weaker with his feet than Schlager and Zawieschitzky – although his long clearances with his strong left foot should not be underestimated.
STEFAN POSCH
90 Minutes
Always had good attacking actions, but was quite erratic at times in his main job of defending. Early in the game, the Mainz defender was lucky not to hit Manning during an awkward clearance, and he was far from solid in the situation leading to the penalty. However, he managed to improve in this regard in the second half.
DAVID AFFENGRUBER
until 45th minute
Unfortunately, no continuation of his good starting XI debut against Kosovo. The Fulham player repeatedly showed susceptibility to errors, often correcting his own mistakes, but crucially allowed Parrott to get past him for the 1-0 goal. He had to stay in the changing room at half-time.
PHILIPP LIENHART
90 Minutes
A blackout like that simply shouldn't happen to a seasoned player like him – especially with such strong competition for his position. Before Parrott's opening goal, the 30-year-old was easily beaten, including a nutmeg, and struggled with the error for several minutes afterwards. However, as the game progressed, he was also able to stabilize his performance.
PHILLIPP MWENE
90 Minutes
That one should not blindly clear a ball across one's own penalty area is usually learned in youth football. The 32-year-old did it anyway, leading to the penalty for the 2-0 score. Otherwise, he also had some defensive problems, especially with Abankwah. Little came from him going forward; specifically, his crosses with his supposedly strong right foot were almost never effective.
XAVER SCHLAGER
90 Minutes
Wearing the captain's armband, he was once again a true leader on the field. He won important balls, tried a lot, but also made one or two wrong decisions – not least in a potential scoring situation from a tight angle, where he played a square pass. After half-time, he had to hand the armband to Laimer, but his performance remained equally good.
NICOLAS SEIWALD
until 45th minute
Perhaps the tireless runner lacked a bit of freshness this time. An uncharacteristically error-prone game from Rangnick's favourite pupil – not least his foul leading to the penalty, which was more than avoidable. Probably for this reason, he was substituted at half-time for only the second time in his 54th international match.
PATRICK WIMMER
90 Minutes, Assist
Off the ball, an absolute gala performance from the running machine. It was incredible how many balls the Lower Austrian won in this game. What happened with them afterwards, however, still needs improvement, as seen with his big chance just before half-time. All the better, then, was his assist for Prass's temporary equalizer.
CARNEY CHUKWUEMEKA
until 45th minute
Not a good day for the Dortmund-based player on his starting XI debut. At the beginning, he barely saw the ball in the number ten role, only showing a few actions during Austria's good phase after the 1-0. However, for an attacking player of his class, that was far too little. His game was over by half-time.
ROMANO SCHMID
until 67th minute
Not a good, and above all, invisible performance from the Italy-based player. In the first half, he was only noticeable for an avoidable loss of possession, after which he was lucky not to receive a yellow card. In the final phase, Prass came on for him, who played the left-wing position much wider and thus more effectively against the Irish.
SASA KALAJDZIC
90 Minutes
Normally, the LASK striker should have left this game with at least three assists. Once, he beautifully flicked the ball on for Seiwald with his shoulder, then showed great vision for Wimmer. In the closing stages, Gregoritsch missed a superb chance set up by him, and right at the end, Prass shot over after his setup. He also repeatedly made very intelligent plays, but his closest attempt at a goal until the very end was a shot from the halfway line right at the beginning. It was actually planned for the Viennese player to only stay on the field until the 60th minute, but he played through and looked fresh until the end.
MAXIMILIAN WÖBER
from 46th minute
Was substituted on at half-time and got to play in his main position at centre-back. He noticeably felt more comfortable there. He was stable in his defensive actions and also played one or two good balls out from the back.
KONRAD LAIMER
from 46th minute
Came on immediately after the break, earlier than planned. He immediately took the armband from Schlager but didn't quite live up to the role yet. In one or two situations, it was noticeable that the Bayern-based player was not yet fully fit after his adductor injury. However, as usual, his willingness was not an issue.
MICHAEL GREGORITSCH
from 46th minute, Goal
For a long time, nothing came from the super-sub – and then it happened. Virtually from a standstill, he converted the free-kick for the 2-2 equalizer in an absolutely cunning manner, once again proving how important he is for the ÖFB team. The Styrian almost became the outright match-winner too, but unfortunately, he had the ball on his wrong foot during his big chance shortly before the end.
ALEXANDER PRASS
from 67th minute
The biggest positive surprise of the day. The Hoffenheim-based player was allowed to play in his natural midfield position for the ÖFB team for an extended period for the first time – and he did his job really well. He showed clinical composure for the equalizer, and he won the free-kick before the leveller with a strong dribble. For the top rating, his crosses would have needed to be a bit more precise, or he would have had to convert the big chance for a 3-2 lead shortly before the end.
