Rangnick: Young goalkeeper to make ÖFB debut

Ralf Rangnick will feature a debutant in goal for the Austrian national team in the second UEFA Nations League match at home against Kosovo (Sun., from 6 PM in the LIVE ticker).

The ÖFB national team coach reveals that Alexander Schlager, who was the number one in the recent 3-1 win against Israel, will not be in the starting eleven.

All signs point to Jungwirth

Instead, either Lukas Jungwirth or Christian Zawieschitzky will be in goal. Rangnick announces that the goalkeeper who starts against Kosovo will then join the U21 team to play in the decisive European Championship qualifier against Denmark.

Since LASK goalkeeper Jungwirth was recently a regular in the ÖFB U21 team, it can be assumed that it will be him.

Rangnick says: "We didn't invite four goalkeepers for nothing. The two young players play for their clubs, play internationally, and have done really well so far. If we don't look at them now, when will we?"

Four goalkeepers in four matches?

He sees "no risk" in a goalkeeping change. "They all made a really good impression in training," said the coach.

This measure and the accompanying statements could be interpreted as an indication that Florian Wiegele and Zawieschitzky will also get playing time in the two away matches in Dublin and Prishtina.
