What annoyed Rangnick in Dublin

The ÖFB team coach didn't get "really loud" in the dressing room, but he certainly had reason to.

"He didn't get really loud," Philipp Lienhart reveals about Ralf Rangnick's half-time team talk.

However, it is also a fact that the ÖFB team coach was anything but amused given the deserved 0-2 deficit in Ireland. Ultimately, Austria still managed a 2-2 draw in Dublin (Match report >>>).

Not at the required level

"We didn't have the energy level of the first two games, we had little control and hardly won any second balls," the coach lamented about the first 45 minutes.

The coach, however, doesn't identify a "freshness problem", but rather a lack of mental sharpness. "We weren't at the level you need to be at if you want to achieve something here," he makes clear.

Annoyance over the first goal

Rangnick is particularly displeased with Ireland's opening goal, where Troy Parrott first nutmegged Lienhart, Nicolas Seiwald failed to challenge for the ball, and then David Affengruber also lost out to the striker.

"You should never concede a goal like that when it's three against one, very annoying," he says.

Lienhart agrees: "That should never happen like that, that was bad."

The good reaction

In the second half, the ÖFB team fought their way back into the game. "The reaction, especially in the last half hour, was naturally really good," Rangnick commented happily, "the Irish struggled to keep up the pace in the final minutes."

Rangnick even believes more could have been achieved: "In the end, we were closer to 3-2."

And yet, he ultimately speaks of a fair draw: "If you're 0-2 down and have played such a first half, we can be satisfied with the result. Overall, the draw is acceptable."
