Nationality Switches? Prödl Calls for FIFA and UEFA Intervention
He wants a so-called protective mechanism regarding nationality switches.
The increasing nationality switches in international football are also a concern for the ÖFB.
"That's simply part of the business now. In principle, it's a transfer market," explains Youth Director Sebastian Prödl in an interview with "InsideAUT".
Austria has been both a winner and a loser in this regard. Nevertheless, the 39-year-old believes action is needed when it comes to nationality switches.
"To protect the players, and I say this consciously, I still believe that UEFA and FIFA must implement a protective mechanism due to the high number."
Prödl Criticizes Imbalance
Prödl is particularly critical of the lack of financial compensation for national associations.
"Clubs receive training compensation for a transfer, but associations do not. We also invest a lot in a player, and contribute to the system in the same way. Therefore, a solution must be found."
Nevertheless, the ÖFB does not want to pressure talents into choosing Austria: "We don't want to persuade or convince anyone."
