Michael Gregoritsch is getting closer and closer to the top 10.

The 2-2 draw in Ireland marked the Styrian's 80th international cap, where he also celebrated his 25th goal in the red-white-red jersey.

Sindelar and Herzog within Reach

The striker now needs only one more goal to draw level with legends Andreas Herzog and Matthias Sindelar, placing him joint ninth on the all-time ÖFB top scorers list.

Furthermore, the 32-year-old needs only four more matches to also break into the top 10 on the record appearances list.

Cameo as an Impact Sub

After the Germany-based player injured his ankle at the start of the Nations League campaign against Israel, forcing him to miss the match against Kosovo, he featured as an impact sub in Dublin.

"We're not allowed to do that much anymore..."

And he delivered. In the 77th minute, "Gregerl" tucked a free-kick from around 20 meters precisely into the corner.

Stefan Posch jokes: "He almost shot that in like a golf shot. We're not allowed to do that much anymore, so he hammered it in on the football pitch instead."

Philipp Lienhart adds: "He can shoot, we know that."

Lots of Action at the Free-kick

There was a lot going on between the Irish goalie and the ball during that free-kick.

Six Irish players were in the wall, with another lying behind it. In front of the Irish wall, four Austrians formed a wall.

Almost from a Standstill

And then Gregoritsch took the free-kick almost from a standstill, curling it precisely into the corner.

Gregoritsch reports: "I sort of played a little game with the goalkeeper. I thought if I only took one step of a run-up, he wouldn't think I'd shoot into his corner. That he moved so early was, of course, a bit of luck. We had a good laugh about it in the changing room."

Big Chance Missed

In the 81st minute, the attacker was less fortunate, missing a clear-cut chance after a pass from Sasa Kalajdzic.

"Unfortunately, I couldn't keep it low enough with my right foot; perhaps a chip would have been a better idea. That really hurts, because a win would have been great," lamented the veteran.

Posch Jokes

And as they say, if you've got the damage, you don't need to worry about the ridicule. Posch deadpanned: "His right foot is more for standing on."

It can't be that bad if you have 80 international caps and 25 goals on your resume…
