Three Former Bundesliga Players on Trial at Austria Salzburg
A trio of free agents participated in the Violets' last friendly match. This could see Salzburg strengthen their squad further for this season.
Will SV Austria Salzburg strengthen their squad before the winter break?
Things are going quite well for the Salzburgers this season, with ten points from seven games. The seventh-placed team, however, still fielded three trial players in their last friendly against FC Hertha Wels (3:3).

Jonathan Scherzer, Luca Kronberger, and Marcel Schantl featured in the friendly against the LigaZwa competitor. Former Altach player Kronberger even scored the 1-1 equaliser.
A Combined 244 Bundesliga Appearances
Leading the trio is left-back Scherzer, most recently with SV Ried and previously WAC, who brings significant Bundesliga experience: the 31-year-old has made 119 appearances in the Austrian top flight.
Kronberger also boasts nearly a triple-digit number of Bundesliga appearances. So far, the former attacking talent has made 99 appearances, though he has only half as many Bundesliga minutes under his belt as Scherzer.
However, Kronberger did not have an easy time at Altach, struggling to establish himself with the first team. This is highlighted by the fact that since the 2024/25 season, he played more often in the Regionalliga West for the reserve team (14 appearances) than for the first team overall (13).
Unlike Scherzer and Kronberger, Schantl has been without a club since January 2026. In Blau-Weiß Linz's first Bundesliga season (23/24), the right-back still made 18 appearances, but after that, he no longer featured for the senior squad.
